Marubeni Chairman Asada holds British Market Council New Year event in Tokyo
Date:2017/01/30(Mon)
On January 26, Mr. Teruo Asada, Chairman of Marubeni, who also currently serves as chairman of the British Market Council ("BMC"), held a BMC New Year event at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo.

Following greetings by Chairman Asada, H.E. Mr. Paul Madden, the newly appointed British ambassador to Japan, and Mr. Koichi Akaishi, Director-General for Trade Policy, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Mr. Kenji Miyahara, Sumitomo Corporation Honorary Adviser (BMC Special Adviser), performed the welcome toast. More than 160 guests involved in British business and activities in Japan attended, far exceeding the previous year’s event, and deepened their friendship in what was regarded a very successful New Year event.

The BMC is a private organization that was established in 1973 with the aim to "contribute to establishing and maintaining sound and stable trade relations between the UK and Japan." The BMC currently has 66 member companies and organizations (up 10 from last year), including five general trading companies ("sogo shosha"). Through its various activities, the BMC will work to distill U.K.-related information such as Britain’s exit from the European Union (“Brexit”), and also continue contributing to the expansion of bilateral trade.
