Chairman Asada gives a speech at the banquet
On January 28th, Mr. Teruo Asada, Chairman of Marubeni, held the 2019 New Year Banquet for the British Market Council (hereinafter, "BMC")*, an organization for which he also serves as chairman, at the Imperial Hotel Tokyo (Sakura‐no‐Ma).
Mr. David Ellis, Minister and Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Tokyo, and Mr. Shigehiro Tanaka, Director-General of the Trade Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), were invited as honored guests, and with roughly 180 attendees in total, this year’s banquet was a much larger event than last year’s. From start to finish, all present were able to forge deeper connections with one another amidst the fresh and buoyant atmosphere of the banquet.

*The BMC is a private voluntary organization that was established in 1973 with the aim of contributing to the establishment and the maintenance of sound and stable trade relations between Japan and the U.K. The BMC currently has 73 member companies and organizations, including 5 general trading companies (“sogo shosha”). Through its various activities, while working to disseminate information like Brexit and other information pertinent to Britain, the BMC will continue contributing to the expansion of bilateral trade.
