Chairman Asada Holds the 22nd Japan-UK Business Partnership Seminar

On October 13th, Mr. Teruo Asada, Chairman of the British Market Council (“BMC”), held the 22nd Japan-U.K. Business Partnership Seminar at The Agnes Hotel and Apartments Tokyo.

The Seminar entitled “The Post-Coronavirus Economic Recovery Outlook・Creative Technology”, began with addresses from Chairman Asada and Mr. Chris Heffer, Minister-Counsellor, Director of Trade and Investment at the British Embassy in Tokyo. Then, there was a lecture on the current status of global COVID-19 infections, the effect on the economy, and prospects for economic recovery from Mr. Takashi Imamura, General Manager of the Marubeni Research Institute. Afterwards, Ms. Marie-Claire Joyce, Trade Counsellor at the British Embassy in Tokyo, gave a presentation about “Creative Technology”, in which she talked about the status of technological advancement of AI and IT in the U.K., as well as examples of Japan-U.K. business collaboration in those fields.

As the global COVID-19 pandemic continues to persist, The Agnes Hotel and Apartments Tokyo gave its full support in implementing meticulous countermeasures such as socially distant seating for the Seminar. For this year, the annual spring reception and mini seminar at British Hills were both cancelled; this Seminar is the first Japan-U.K. event this year to be held in person, nevertheless, the number of participants (50) reached the maximum number permitted, and the seminar was a valuable opportunity to deepen the ties of business between the two countries.

In addition, in the opening remarks by Chairman Asada, we offered a moment of silence for 30 seconds, to pray for Mr. Koji Inoue, who passed away suddenly immediately after taking position as a director of BMC in June, and for Mr. Ueshima, who served as a special advisor for a long time and passed away in July.
