New Year's Party of the British Market Council (BMC) hosted by Mr Suzuki, Chairman.

The Chairman of the British Market Council, Mr Suzuki, hosted the first BMC New Year's party in three years, which was interrupted by the Covid 19, on 25 January, 2023 at the Imperial Hotel, Sakura Room. Around 170 people signed up to participate, and 152 people gathered on the day of the party in the coldest weather in a decade.

The party opened with opening remarks by Mr Suzuki, Chairman of the BMC, followed by addresses by British Ambassador HE Julia Longbottom and Mr Matsuo, Director-General, Trade Policy Bureau, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), who all referred to the recent deepening of cooperation between the UK and Japan in various fields and BMC activities.
Mr Suzuki noted that the BMC contributes not only to economic relations, but also to cultural exchanges. British Ambassador HE Julia Longbottom highlighted meaningful exchanges of views with BMC member companies on energy and other issues. Mr Matsuo, Director-General, Trade Policy Bureau, METI spoke about the importance of the UK-Japan relationship and the dispatch of people to JETRO London to support private sector initiatives to strengthen UK-Japan economic relations.
Mr Asada, Honorary Corporate Advisor to Marubeni Corporation (Honorary Adviser to the BMC and former Chairman) then gave a toast, in which he spoke of his delight at the resumption of face-to-face BMC events, which had been interrupted by the Covid 19.

The party was a great success, with a deepening of the friendship among the officials from the British Embassy and METI, the parties concerned and the members.
